She’s Speaking exists to create forums/spaces where women’s voices and artistry can be heard by all people through live music events, our YouTube channel featuring women artists, our livestream concerts and more.
Recognizing that women are unrepresented across all aspects of the music industry and that women’s voices and stories need to be heard, She’s Speaking was co-founded during the global pandemic in 2020 by Oregon singer-songwriters Beth Wood, Bre Gregg (Portland), and Kristen Grainger (Salem). The project fosters opportunities and platforms that elevate songs by women, about women, for everyone.
After creating and curating a YouTube channel with more than 60 original song-videos contributed by women songwriters and hosting several live-stream performances during the pandemic shutdown, She’s Speaking produced its first live, onstage performance at Alberta Rose Theatre as soon as it was safe to do so.
In March of 2023, She’s Speaking-LIVE took that dynamic and uplifting live show on the road, joining with several Oregon and Washington communities in celebration of Women’s History Month. She’s Speaking-LIVE is eight phenomenal women songwriters (Beth Wood, Bre Gregg (Red Bird), Kristen Grainger (Kristen Grainger and True North), Liz Chibucos (Far Out West), Arietta Ward, Naomi LaViolette, LaRhonda Steele, and Lisa Mann) from diverse backgrounds and genres backed by a killer ban and coming together to share original tunes and honor their sheroes. She’s Speaking-LIVE will hit the road again in March, 2024 exploring new venues and celebrating women’s voices and stories across the northwest!
