Welcome, October!
Hello friends and fellow music lovers, and happy fall!
I hope you are enjoying these crisp days. Just touching in to let you know about some awesome things coming up!
But first I must send a huge heap of gratitude! Thank you Sisters Folk Festival and staff, thank you Americana Song Academy campers and staff and generous instructors, thank you brilliant artist light-bringers, thank you volunteers and crew, thank you loving music lovers who gathered and revelled safely and joyfully in the name of song. I didn’t even realize how thirsty I was.
Below is our closing song at the Sunday Community Celebration. I am deeply honored to be the host, and every year I wonder if we’re gonna be able to pull the whole thing off…and every year the magic unfolds and flows like water for our souls.
This song is a delicious miracle in itself! It was created from a class at song camp by the amazing Dennis McGregor called “Hike and Write” in which about 25 of us marched to a beat and giggled and shouted out words and phrases which Dennis captured on his phone and then sorted through back at camp. Then the great Willy Porter created a tasty funky beat to go underneath and then Thunderstorm Artis and Brad Tisdel were walking by and sang verses and next thing you know we were all singing and dancing there was no tomorrow and no yesterday. It was indeed a perfect day. It was a perfect seven days full of wonder and connection and joy and tears and in the name of music I could not be more grateful, amen.

Here is what is coming up soon y’all…I hope you’ll join me!

And finally, here’s something really fun! My friend the amazing Naomi LaViolette asked me if I would like to record my song “Love Is Love (The Christmas Eve Song) as a duet and release it as a holiday single. Of course I said YES and we got to work recording and arranging and harmonizing and then our friend Mai Bloomfield added beautiful cello parts and we are so over the moon happy with how it turned out! The song will be launched on streaming platforms on November 5, and it would be a GREAT BIG HELP to us if you would pre-save it on Spotify! That will give us better chances of getting the song added to a curated playlist, the best way to reach lots and lots of new ears! (Pre-saving really helps us independent artists…if you use Spotify, can you take a moment to give us this click of support?) Click here to pre-save!

Here I am on the porch practicing for Sisters Folk Festival…it had been a while! Thankfully I remembered how to play my songs.
![]() I mean come ON, look at that face!! ![]() Well Hannah spent the week at Central Bark here in Sisters while I was at song camp and festival, and she did great! So proud of her. When we got home she climbed on the couch and fell asleep with her leg in the air. Girl, I felt the same way, ha! ![]() |
