1. GRATITUDE…Special thanks to all these folks for making September so wonderful: Janis, Diane and Mike and all at Juniper Jam, Brad and the Sisters Folk Festival family, all at the Americana Song Academy, Kristen and Bruce Hayes and all at Lake City Uncorked Wine and Music Festival, Ann & Bop, Bob Heminger, Courtney & Michelle and all a Big River Music, David Stoddard, Wendy & Dean & Stacey and friends, Jan & Barb and friends, Michael and all at A Center for the Arts, Dylan and all at Warming House, and Ray & Connie and friends!
A special gratitude shout out to everyone at the Sisters Folk Festival and Americana Song Academy. As some of you know, the festival was canceled this year due to extremely poor air quality from wildire smoke. We had two wonderful days at the song academy and then had to wrap up camp early for the same reason. I want to thank all the camp staff and instructors and participants for being so understanding, and the SFF for doing the hard work of making that decision and dealing with the aftermath. We will be back next year doubly strong, woop!!
2. THE NEWS…October is jam packed with good things! I’m excited to head to the FAR-West Folk Alliance conference in Bellevue, and to cap off the trip with my first visit to Coyle, WA, a community only accessibe by ferry, for a concert at their community center!Â
And there are a couple of bucket list things coming up! Firstly, on October 14, my dear friend Ara Lee and many Portand musicians and I will celebrate the debut of the “Nasty Woman” single and video by playing a fundraising concert for the Northwest Chapter of Planned Parenthood! The engine behind this song and this entire effort is the amazing Ara Lee whose talent and charisma are too expansive to contain. Ara dreamed up the seed of this song as a reflexive response to the misogyny and ugliness of last year’s presidential campaign, and we wrote it together with our friend Jen Hajj. After it was hatched and we had so much fun singing it, we dreamed of making something good out of the ugliness. Ara has led the effort to engage Planned Parenthood and this concert will be their fall fundraiser! All of the proceeds from this concert as well as the download of the song will go to support women’s health care. Because it is PP’s official fundraiser, tickets are pretty pricey, but we have secured a limited number of discounted tickets at $20. If you would like to attend and would like access to discounted tickets, please email me at bethwoodmusic [AT] hotmail.com and we will make it happen. This is an all-star cast of Portland musicians, all of whom played on the recorded version of “Nasty Woman”. Performers will include Bre Gregg, Marilyn Keller, Shelly Rudolph, Sarah Clarke, Paul Brainerd, Dan Gildea and more! Here is the amazing poster — I hope you can join us!

And if you can’t join us, the song will be available for download on Oct 13, so stay tuned for that!
Here’s a little preview and a little background about the song from Ara Lee, captured by Portland Musicians Rising Up…

When I was dreaming of how to celebrate my 20th year in music, I knew I had to play with two of my good friends and mentors and big brothers in song Chris Rosser and David Lamotte. My friendship with both of these amazing humans has meant so much to me ever since I moved to Brevard at the beginning of my career and they adopted me as a little sister. So when the opportunity came up to play a show with Chris and David promoted by one of my favorite people, David Sardinha, at one of my favorite venues, The Cary Theater, I had to say yes! I am so excited to celebrate with them on Oct 13!
As I am rounding out this 20 years in music, I still can’t believe how lucky I am to get to do what I love. It is not an easy road but it is an amazing life and I couldn’t be more grateful. Releasing 20 songs this year has been such a fun endeavor, and it has made me realize that I have another album brewing. I want to do things differently this time. I have never been more ready. Look for a big announcement soon about those plans and how you can be a part of it!Â

ohmygosh check out this amazing line-up of the instructor performances at Americana Song Academy…so dreamy!

here’s the whole Americana Song Academy crew…super hardy, brave, and generous folks…can’t wait for next year!

one of my favorite moments from song camp was getting to sing with my friends Dale Jones and Anna Tivel..it was like a little 4 minute slice of heaven!

and then I got to go out to my favorite place in the world, Lake City, CO where the aspens were showing off their colors…

I had such a blast playing with the great Bruce Hayes at the Lake City Uncorked Wine & Music fest! And lemme just say that drinking wine all afternoon at altitude in the sun is one of the most enjoyable ways to wear yourself out! 🙂

Here’s a glimpse of the wonderful crowd there…

And I got to play with my good buddy Bob Hemenger again at Big River Music in Creede…somebody pinch me!

This cutie was at our show in Creede… his name is arrow and I love him.

Went straight from Minneapolis airport to a house concert in Fergus Falls with my buddy the great David Stoddard!! We have so much fun, can ya tell?

and I got to play a house concert in beautiful Iron River, WI where Barb and Jan let me stay at their resort and this is the view from my front porch..sigh…

I got to sing with my buddy Dave Stoddard at his awesome CD release party at A Center for the Arts!!

thought you might like this beautiful, artsy photo by the great Holly D…it’s a reflection in the grand piano!

and we played at the Warming Hosue in Minnesota, a little music venue in the basement of a bike shop. I love this place and not just because they have a bird logo (but that doesn’t hurt)…

And finally, these two crazies were the greeting committee in Winona, MN…Daily and Hattie stole my heart right from the beginning!Â

4. THE FUTURE…I’m so excited about what’s coming up to round out the rest of this year… an overdue trip to the Northeast and some wonderful shows in the northwest. Oh yeah, and then there’s that album. 🙂
Renee and I are working hard on the 2018 tour calendar. Trips are shaping up to Texas in February, the midwest in March, the southeast in April and May, and more. If you have any venue suggestions for those regions or if you are interested in hosting a house concert, holler at me at bethwoodmusic [AT] hotmail.com!
As always, THANK YOU for listening, reading, clapping, and encouraging me on my artistic path. Hope to see you out there on the road soon! With much gratitude from your fan,
