2. THE NEWS…Just in cast you missed it, last week we released the video of “Nasty Woman,” the woment’s empowerment anthem that Ara Lee and I co-wrote with Jen Hajj! It has created a flurry of activity online and in our local media with over 15,000 views on YouTube. The video is such a powerful piece of art created by Josh Sales and Ericka Heidrick. We had over 50 people volunteer their time and talents to make this song and video! All profits from the download of the song are going to our local chapter of Planned Parenthood. We are working furiously to get this in front of as many eyes and ears as possible. Please watch, share, and tag everyone you know who you think would be moved by it!!

This week I got to film two songs for The Rye Room Sessions, a video series created by Rye Room studio owner Matt Greco here in Portland. They produce really beautiful videos, and I got to sing “The Hard Way” solo and “The Long Road” with my friends Milo Fultz on upright bass and Bryan Daste on pedal steel. Be still my heart! I can’t wait to share these videos with you. (check out this one by my friend Anna Tivel who has a beautiful new album called “Small Believer”.)

NEW ALBUM UPDATE: I went down to Eugene last week to meet with Tyler Fortier and work on some pre-production and song selection. We have a plan and it is exactly what I was hoping for. I have booked studio time at The Rye Room for the last week in November and we have lined up some amazing players. It’s happening!! Stay tuned for how you can be involved in the making of my 11th album!!

I am SO exicted for my northeast tour coming up! It has been way too long since I’ve played up there. I can’t wait to see some beautiful autumn leaves (if they’re still there), reconnect with old friends and connect with new ones, get lost on windy roads that change names randomly, and pay lots of tolls, HA! But seriously, I am very excited for my first time playing at legendary Club Passim in Boston sharing the evening with Jess Klein. Another new venue to me will be The Parlor Room in Northamtpom where I get to share the evening with Connor Garvey. And I am stoked to return to the beautiful listening room Burlap and Bean with Heather Mae. I can’t wait to return to one of my favorite places Albany and play house concerts in West Chester and Annapolis. And I am very excited to be playing a formal showcase at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference. It’s gonna be jam-packed!

Then when I return home I get to play two of the sweetest listening rooms I know…The Open Door @ Ascension in Portland and Olympia Acoustic Concerts. Somebody pinch me! Details below..

We serve potluck refreshments; most people bring an appetizer, dessert or beverage to share. Each show provides the audience with an opportunity to meet and interact with the performers. ?Olympia??? Acoustic Music is the name we choose to describe the concerts in our private home. This is not a business or a business related activity. It is strictly a hobby for us – gatherings of friends and guests to enjoy live acoustic music, food and fun. Because seating is limited, advanced reservations are necessary for all concerts. For more information, email olymusic [AT] comcast.net. 4 pm.

It was so much fun to present the Best of the West award to Brad Tisdel and the Sisters Folk Festival at the FAR-West conference! Here’s me & Benji Nagel backing up Brad on one of his songs…

Oh how beautiful it was in Coyle, WA..population approx 200…where Norm hosts concerts at their community center.

A little pre-game sillliness with my buddies David Lamotte & Chris Rosser!

It was such a magical night at the Cary Theater! My favorite parts were singing David’s song that he wrote with Wes Collins “You May Do That” and Chris’s song “The Laundromat Song.” It’s kinda emotional when you cover one of your musical hero’s songs and he is standing right there! And then there are two of them!

Look out, world!

This picture captures all the joy and passion and comraderie that have been there all along in the making of the “Nasty Woman” recording and video. The world premiere concert was over the top amazing!!

It was such an amazing group of Portland musicians who blew the roof off of the Old Church!

Check out this beautiful art gallery concert in Phoenix! It was a wonderful night and the walls told stories.

Cutting up with Ara Lee while being interviewed for Inessa Anderson’s podcast on The Portland Radio Project!

What a wonderful afternoon of conversation and sisterhood. Thank you Inessa Anderson and Teri Briggs for making it happen!

Anybody want a ride to the  barn concert?

Inside the Schorn Barn in Kingston, WA where magic still exists…

Oh my goodness would you look at this face?? This is Elvis from Underground Oasis house concerts and it’s a good thing he wouldn’t fit in my suitcase.

I know you won’t believe this but somehow I ended up on the floor with Moo Moo at our friends David & Julie’s house!

4. THE FUTURE…I am beyond thrilled to be recording a new album starting on Nov 27!! It is a dream come true to be working at The Rye Room here in Portland with the great Tyler Fortier and the best players around. We will be working in a way that is new to us and I think it will prove to be magical. I can’t wait to tell you more about it.

We are on track for poetry book # 2 to come out at the end of this year! December will be jam packed for the first two weeks, and then it will be time for rest. I love taking time in the winter for stillness and reflection and recovery.

Renee and I are hard at work building an awesome tour calendar for next year. Lemme hear from ya at bethwoodmusic [AT] hotmail.com if there are any places you’d like to see me play! I always love hearing from you.

As always I am infinitely grateful for you and your support of my creative dreams. I hope to see you out there on the road! Cheers and thanks from your fan,

Beth Wood
