1. GRATITUDE…BIG THANK YOU to all of your collective energy and support in helping me reach, then exceed my Kickstarter goal! And thank you to these peeps for making Feb’s shows really fun: Dana and all the crew at Pilot’s Pub, John Wynn and friends, Nancy and Joel and friends, Jenny and Oakley, Ann and Bop (awesome roadies!), Cathy and Rick, Lane and the crew at The Bugle Boy, Thomas & Gayle and all at Sycamore Creek, Rob & Tanya and friends, Bill and Mickie Lippe and friends, Mark and Jeanne and friends, and the great Tom Faulkner and Ara Lee.
2. THE NEWS…The biggest news of all is reaching and exceeding our goal on my Kickstarter campaign so that I can finish and promote album #11!! I must admit I was nervous about asking for your help, but you guys answered me with a resounding YES and I could not be more thrilled or grateful! We are in the mixing phase of the album right now, which means that all the recording is done (except for one cello part we are waiting on for Mai Bloomfield to do when she gets home from tour…woop!). Matt is diving in to the mixes at The Rye Room and it is sounding amazing! I will keep you posted on things as they develop.
Next piece of amazing news is the my 2nd book, “Ladder To The Light” is here! I stopped by Mezcalita Press when I was in Texas and got to pick up a few copies. It was such an amazing feeling to see my vision realized into this book! I’m super excited about the cover — thanks to Jen Blair for her great work on the graphics! And thanks to Nathan and Ashely for patiently working with me to see this book through to the finish. I will be working on getting this new book up on my website. In the mean time, I will have them at shows, or you can order one from me here.
I’ve got a few things coming up on my home turf that I am over-the-moon excited about! FIRTSLY, Ara Lee and I have been invited to be the special guests of the Aurora Chorus, a women’s choir here in Portland, this coming Sunday at their concert in celebration of International Women’s Day! We will sing a few songs, then the choir will do their program and then back us up on our song “Nasty Woman” and another couple songs. Wowza! THEN my good friend and one of my musical heros Tom Faulkner is coming to Oregon! Tom and I have played tons of shows together over the years, and he is one of my favorite artists and writers of all time. It has been a dream of mine to share his music with folks up here in the northwest, so please come show him some Oregon love! We’ll be playing at the lovely Artichoke listening room on Sat, March 17 and at John Cook’s Songwriter Series House Concerts in Bend (this one is already sold out so thank you, John and please come see us at Artichoke). Check out one of my favorite videos of me and Tom (with special guest my cousin John David on washboard!)

and one of my all-time favorite Tom Faulkner songs from one of his Troubdaour, TX appearances…

AND THEN I am also super excited about a workshop here in Portland that I will be co-leading with Vicki Ambinder on April 7 & 8! Vicki has been a part of the folk community for many years and does amazing work as a performance coach. Her positive energy and approach along with her theater background and experience make her a wonderful coach to work with in addressing musical performance. Vicki and I have dreamed up a two-day songwriting and performace workshop for women songwriters that we will lead together. It is called Go Outside(Yourself) and Play: A Character Creation and Performance Workshop for Women Songwriters. It will be 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day at a quiet, private location in the West Hills, woop! Cost is $165 per person (includes both days). Registration is required and is limited to 12 participants. I hope you’ll join us! If you have questions or to begin the registration process, please email Vicki at vicki@vickiambinder.com. You can read more about it here!

Speaking of workshops, my cup runneth over this year with workshops! I am so honored to be leading a singing workshop at Dusty Strings in Seattle on Sunday, March 24. The workshop is open to all levels of singers, and we will be focusing on the breath and how to use breath as a tool to support relaxed, natural singing. And in April I will be co-leading the first annual Songsmith School in Brevard, NC with the great Sarah Siskind! My friend John Felty and his company Mountainsong Productions are putting on the first Songsmith Gathering – a songwriters festival at the beautiful Brevard Music Center. John and Sarah and I have been dreaming on the idea of a song school for a long time, and it is finally coming true this April! We will be leading a one-and-a-half day workshop gathering on April 19 & 20, and then we will sail right into the Songsmith Gathering on a wave of creative joy! Click on the beautful poster below to read more about Songsmith Gathering and Songsmith School!

And finally this blows my mind that I was invited to lead songwriting workshops at this year’s Summer Fishtrap Gathering in Joseph, OR. Fishtrap is a week-long writer’s conference located in the heart of the Wallowa Mountains at the south end of Wallowa Lake – with workshops in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, memoir, special workshops just for youth, and songwriting! Somebody pinch me please!
