June Newsy News for ya!

Greetings, friends and fellow music lovers! Wow, that was one fun birthday! HUGE GRATITUDE to The Bugle Boy, Lane, John and all the volunteers, to all who tuned in and cheered me on and donated and helped me celebrate! It was a wonderful way to spend my big day – surrounded by friends and family and steeped in music and poetry. My heart is full. Here is the concert if you missed it and you’d like to watch.
Warmer days are catching up to us and I couldn’t be more ready. I hope you are well and finding ways to feed your spirit. I’m getting out for more walks and runs and exploration and it feels so good. There are fun things happening this month, and I’m cooking up new things for the summer. Here’s what’s going on…
Thursday, June 3 – Songs My Mother Wouldn’t Like presents: “Songs and Stories” with BW and Tom Kimmel. ** An evening of songs, stories and poetry with Beth Wood and Tom Kimmel. Host Bruce Swan will introduce and interview both artists. 5 pm Pacific/8 pm Eastern. Registration on Zoom is required to view. Donations are gratefully accepted. Click here to register.
**note: I hate to break it to the folks at “Songs My Mother Wouldn’t Like” but my mother does, in fact, REALLY like the songs of Tom Kimmel and I’m pretty sure she likes mine, too. I hope we’re still eligible for the series, ha! I am so excited for this event, and I hope you’ll join us.

Wednesday, June 9 – Monthly Virtual Song Circle. Songs need to be heard, and songwriters need community! We can’t meet in person, so let’s meet on Zoom to gather by the virtual campfire and share some songs! Attendance will be capped at 10 people, and the circle will go for two hours maximum. Please email me at bethwoodmusic@hotmail.com to reserve your spot. There is no cost to attend. Free-will donations of $5-10 will be joyfully accepted (Venmo: @bethwoodmusic or Paypal).

I’m excited to play for an outoor private party at a beautiful home here in Sisters this month. This feels good to take baby steps as things start to open up a bit. And in June I’m hosting a couple of follow up song circles for our Sisters Songworks groups! It feels like one million years ago that we had our virtual retreats, and I am getting excited to start dreaming again about more possibilities in the spring. And a bit of fabulous new…THERE IS A SISTERS FOLK FESTIVAL THIS YEAR, HOORAY! It has moved to the first weekend in October in hopes of swerving around wildfire season. And there will be announcements about all of the happenings soon. I have missed this beloved community and it makes my heart happy to dream of being together again.
In July I will try something new at the urging of some of my songwriting students (thank you!!). I will begin offering Feedback Song Salons. These will be small virtual gatherings where songwriters can share new work and receive thoughtful feedback from fellow songwriters and from me. We will cap the number at 6 so that each songwriter will have ample time to play and receive feedback. Learning in community is so powerful, and I’m grateful for this opportunity to explore this with you. All levels of songwriting and performance experience are welcome. This will be a space of non-judgment for songwriters to support their fellow songwriters. If you’d like feedback on a song you’re working on, or on a performance of a song, this is for you! I am proposing Monday evening, July 19 as a starting point. If there is enough interest, we will continue in August. Cost will be sliding scale of $10-$25…pay what you are comfortable with – no judgment! Please email me at bethwoodmusic@hotmail.com if you are interested.
We had a blast with our She’s Speaking livestream concert celebration of Moms/Grandmas/aunties/nurturing women in our lives. Nine amazing artists shared original songs inspired by moms and grandmas, and shared the inspiration behind the songs. If you missed it and you’d like to watch, you can tune in here. We are in the dreaming phase of what comes next for She’s Speaking, so stay tuned!

And I spent an afternoon browsing the poetry section of our Deschutes Library and guess what I found! This delighted me to no end. Thank you to every one of you who has encouraged me in my poetry. It lights me up!

And finally, the best way to support me and my work and keep up to date with my new music and poetry is to sign up for my Patreon! For as little as $1 a month, you can become a part of my team that keeps me going, and you get a new song and a new poem each month! I even have a new album I made just for patrons that I’ll send to you.
Of course, you also support me by reading this newsletter, by listening and reading the art I make, by following and sharing on social media, and for that I am so very grateful. Happy summer, my dear friends! With gratitude from your fan,
Beth Wood
