|Greetings, friends and fellow music lovers –
I hope you are enjoying summer as much as I am! The veggies are growing, baseball is in full swing (ha), the BBQ’s are fired up, and the days are long…it’s a delicious time of year!
Let’s get to the scoop for July…
1. CALL TO ACTION
2. GRATITUDE & THE NEWS
3. JULY SHOWS in GA and CA…(scroll down for more details)
4. THE FUTURE
1. CALL TO ACTION...Hey guess what – unfortunately, my Sat, July 27 house concert near Santa Cruz had to be canceled. Does anyone in CA wanna put together a last minute house concert? Let’s work together on it! Your friends will love the intimate concert experience, I’ll be so grateful, and my feet will dance. Holler at me if you are interested at bethwoodmusic [AT] hotmail.com.
2. GRATITUDE & THE NEWS ..I always put Gratitude and The News together because I am so grateful for my life in music and for every little kindness and positive thing! I didn’t have shows in June, but still I owe special thanks to lots of folks.
Much gratitude to y’all for continuing to support my Song of the Month Club! It’s the best way to hear my new music, and you get a little present delivered to your inbox every month. It’s not too late to sign up!! This month’s offering, “Holding On To You”, is sparse, intimate and personal. I haven’t even played it out yet so you could be the first to hear! You can read all about Song of the Month Club here, and please pass along to your friends if you think they might dig it!
I’m also very grateful for all of your positive wishes and good energy surrounding my audition for The Voice! What a fun and surreal experience it was. The audition was in Las Vegas – a very surreal place as it is. 🙂 My dear friend Ocea met me there and we had a really fun girls’ trip. Thank goodness she was there to cheer me on, drink margaritas with me, and help me pick out what to wear. 🙂 The audition went very well and I felt great about it! I won’t know for a while what the outcome is, and I’m not allowed to talk details because of their confidentiality requests. (I guess what happens in Vegas really stays in Vegas!) But I promise I will keep you posted and let you know as soon as I hear anything. This was a wild ride way out of my comfort zone, but my theory that every song has something to teach me continues to hold true. I learned “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum, “Rolling in the Deep”by Adele and “Too Close” by Alex Clare for my audition. I never would have chosen these songs otherwise, but each one rocks my world in a different and unexpected way. LOVED it!
I was psyched to learn that the song I wrote with the great Phil Madeira made on his latest solo CD! Phil is a genius — one of those guys who plays every instrument you can think of, sings like a wounded angel, writes brilliant songs, and produces, too. He is a regular in EmmyLou Harris’s band the Red Dirt Boys, and his songs have been recorded by The Civil Wars, Buddy Miller, Alison Krauss, Toby Keith, Ricky Skaggs, Bruce Hornsby, Keb’ Mo’, Garth Brooks, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Shawn Mullins, and more! Dang! You can take a listen to our song “Let You Down” here, and find out more about the CD here.
July is jam-packed with awesome! I can’t wait for my trip to GA! All year I look forward to being part of the Home By Dark shows. Each night features songwriters in the round in a beautiful outdoor setting. This year promises to be a BLAST as always!! I get to swap songs with James Casto & Jesse Terry with instrumental all-stars Matt Blanchard and Jim Hettinger. Woot woot! BONUS: a portion of proceeds from both shows will go to CDA (The Child Development Association). If you’re anywhere near Atlanta on July 5 or 6, come join us! Here’s a video about the greatness of Home By Dark!
I’m also thrilled to be playing some house concerts in California…returning the gracious and fun Goodrich house in Redding and playing a new series in San Diego hosted by a Cayamo alum! And finally, I’m excited to be attending the Zigzag Songwriting Retreat again this year hosted by the great Chris Kokesh and Matt Meighan. It’s a treat I’m giving myself and I know from my experience last time that it will be a fun, relaxing, soul-feeding, joyful time in a gorgeous place. WIN!
And finally, click here to check out this wonderful interview with Portland’s Matt Miner, concert promoter extraordinaire…It makes my heart smile SO BIG to read my name in the same sentence with Jackson Browne…whaaaat?!?!
