Greetings friends and fellow music lovers!
A very happy August to you! Summer is beautiful here in Eugene, and I feel lucky that I’ve gotten to enjoy much of it. My veggies are rockin, the zucchini are taking over, tomatoes are starting to turn red…life is good.
August is front-loaded with some great stuff and then I’ll have a little time to prepare for this year’s Sisters Song Academy and Folk Festival. I’ll be leading the Community Celebration again so I’m eagerly anticipating the delicious fun! Here’s what’s up:
1. GRATITUDE AND THE NEWS
2. AUGUST SHOWS IN EUGENE AND PORTLAND!
3. THE FUTURE
1. GRATITUDE AND THE NEWS…I’m so grateful for my good friends James & Karen Casto, Matt & Brianne Blanchard, Jesse & Jess Terry, Jim Hettinger, and everyone at Home By Dark, Chukkar Farm and Chattahoochie Nature Center. Our shows were epic and fun, rainy and beyond beautiful. Making music with these friends is soul food…yum. Also thanks to the Hearsch family for inviting me to play at your gorgeous new home…I had a wonderful time with everyone and all the kids joyfully dancing and running around made me think it was the wildest party I’ve ever played! 🙂 Thanks to Ross & Jean Goodrich and all their friends and family for another wonderful house concert in Redding! Thanks to Jimmie, Ed, Sue, Roger & Lisa for a fun evening in Valley Center, and thanks to Marty for being my roadie for the weekend! And thanks to the Eugene Emeralds baseball team – the staff and baseball fans have been so wonderful to me! I have been working at the games as an usher this summer — super fun! I get to sing the anthem sometimes and meet lots of new folks, and get this…they are puiting this ad for my upcoming Eugene show up on the jumbotron all week!! Thank you Ems! Thank you Tony, Emily & Wade at Ninkasi for making this awesome flyer!

I am still waiting to hear from The Voice and I promise to keep you posted. Thanks to all for you wonderful encouragement! Fingers and toes crossed!
Tyler and I began song #8 for the new project last week!! Working on these songs has been so fun it feels efortless. I can’t believe we have come this far! I’m excited about the song for August, “Bird Girl” and I can’t wait to share it with you!! If you want to hear the new stuff before it’s released as a CD (later this year or early 2014), you can sign up for my Song of the Month Club! It’s a great way to support me in creating new music and get a little present in your inbox on the first of every month. Thanks to all my song-clubbers for making this album possible!
Eugene peeps — Tyler Fortier and I are doing a special show in Eugene to celebration our collaboration! We’ll be playing at Cozmic on Thursday, August 1 and we’ll be joined by Peter Perdichizzi on guitar and Erin Flood on vocals. My good friend Jesse Terry opens. All ages are welcome – it’s gonna be EPIC!!!
We’re starting to get geared up for this year’s Sisters Folk Festival Americana Song & Arts Academy — a three day music/creativity retreat in a breathtaking setting near Sisters, OR. There is a wonderful addition to this year’s song camp…visual art!! The great Dennis McGregor is putting together the visual art program, and we will be joined by some of the northwest’s finest artists. Art classes and music classes will be open to all. It’s amazing what happens when so many creative people get together. If you haven’t been, I urge you to consider going…it’s my favorite week of the year. 🙂
Check this fun video from our Chukkar Farm show…this is our encore song..a cover of Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love” with Jame Casto, Jesse Terry, Matt Blanchard & Jim Hettinger…woohooo!

3. THE FUTURE…
I’m excited about this fall with some midwest and TX tours coming up. And I can’t WAIT for the Sisters Folk Festival and Song Academy.
These days are bittersweet…I want to share some news from our little family. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our sweet Marble this past week. Many of you know that he was a very special member of my family all of his life — first with my Grandmother and then with Marty & me. We are heartbroken but we knew this time would come, and we are trying to focus on all the love we have for him and all the love he gave us. I’m not ready to write a lot about him yet, but I know I will some day soon. Thanks for all the times you asked me about him when you saw me out there on the road, for commenting on the cute pics of him I shared, for sharing your funny dog stories with me. Our lives are so much better because we got to be with him! Your cyber-hugs are welcomed and appreciated. 🙂
With gratitude from your fan,
