February newsy news is here!

Greetings, friends and fellow music lovers!

Hello from a beautiful snowy blue sky morning in Sisters. This new year is in full swing and there is so much fun stuff happening I don’t know where to begin! Here’s what’s up…

My Patreon community has grown to 113 amazing angel-people and we’re still growing! This is where I share new works exclusively. Patreon is a subscription to my work and a back stage pass all rolled into one! It’s super easy to join so check it out here!

February 1 – We have added a second 6-Week songwriting class beginning Feb 1! I am truly amazed and touched by the abundance of folks who are looking to geek out on songs and songwriting with me. This class will meet on Zoom on Monday evenings from 7-8:30 Pacific time. It is called “Writing the Songs Only You Can Write” and all levels of experience are welcome. We’ll do lots of discussing, listening, writing in and out of class, sharing our work and cheering each other on. Here’s where you can register and find more info! Dates are Feb 1, 8, 15, 22, March 1 & 8.

The first weekend in February (Feb 5-7), I am hosting Sisters Songworks 2.0, an intimate virtual writing retreat with instructors Jonathan Byrd, Ellis Delany and Beth Nielsen Chapman. I mean COME ON! What an amazing line-up! We will cap attendance at 22 participants maximum. There are a few spots left but they are going fast! Here is the info and registration for this amazingw weekend of community and song.

February 10 – I’m hosting my monthly virtual song circle and there is one slot left! Songs need to be heard, and songwriters need community! We can’t meet in person, so let’s meet on Zoom to gather by the virtual campfire and share some songs! Attendance will be capped at 12 people, and the circle will go for two hours maximum. Please email me at bethwoodmusic [AT] hotmail.com to reserve your spot. There is no cost to attend. Free-will donations of $5-10 will be joyfully accepted.

hosted by Beth Wood

February 19 – I’m pinching myself because on Friday, February 19, I get to do a poetry reading with the great Kim Stafford, hosted by our beloved independent book store, Paulina Springs Books! Everyone can attend as this is a virtual event, and there is no cost. I will be reading poems from my latest book Believe The Bird, play a song or two, and we’ll have some lively conversation. Kim will share a few poems, too. If you are not familiar with Kim Stafford, he was our Oregon poet laureate from 2018-2020, and he is a huge inspiration to me. I hope you’ll join us!

February 25 – And speaking of inspiration, I am SO EXCITED for my next Joyful Measures livestream concert on Feb 25th with special guests Sarah Sample and Edie Carey! The intent of this offering is to create a space for beauty, solace, connection, and celebration through word and song while also getting to hear my friends! Sarah Sample and Edie Carey create lush, moving, gorgeous music that moves me deeply — both as solo artists, and as a duo. They teamed up to create a lullaby album called “Til The Morning” that is one of my favorites of all time. A night with these two light-bringers is just the medicine we need! And also dangit, I miss my friends! We’ll swap songs and tell stories and probably giggle a lot. Plus we’ll have a little conversation about what is bringing us joy right now. Tune in on my Facebook music page. You do not have to have a Facebook account to watch. It’s free to watch and donations are joyfully accepted at Venmo: @bethwoodmusic or Paypal. 6:30 Pacific/7:30 Mountain/8:30 Central/9:30 Eastern. We’ll have a special patron-only Zoom after-party where we’ll keep giggling and singing a little more.

And finally, what a moment poetry is having after the super-charged, awe-inspiring reading by our Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman at the inauguration! It was so amazing to watch her soar, and to see how deeply moved people were by her poem and her performance. I felt so proud and so inspired watching her go! Here’s a poem I wrote for her the next morning.

I hope you are all keeping healthy and keeping your spirits up. It is so hard not to be able to hug each other, to share in a meal or live music or a movie or so many of those things that we hold dear. It feels like there is a little light at the end of this tunnel and I’ve got my eye on it. I’ll be reaching out with songs and words and virtual hugs until we meet again.

Thank you for cheering me on and tuning in and reading this. I am so incredibly grateful for you. Some of you have stuck with me since the early days of ‘Woodwork’ and Austin coffee shops and I just can’t believe how lucky I am. Your support and your presence on this creative journey means the world to me! With gratitude from your fan,

Beth Wood
