End of 2022 Newsy Newsletter

Hello, friends and fellow music lovers!

(and thank you, Heaven McArthur for the photo!)

Greetings from snowy Sisters where it feels like we’re living inside a snow-globe! We have tumbled head-first into winter and I’m doing my best to keep up. It’s hard to resist going to bed at 8 pm these days, do ya feel me?

I’ve got some fun things to share! I’ll start with gratitude for Cosy Sheridan and everyone at the Moab Folk Camp! What a wonderful time it was gathering and singing together, swimming in songs and poetry and each other’s company all week in that magical red dirt place. Special thanks to Cosy for believing in me and to Trish and Charlie and all of the support staff and instructors and campers who made it happen! I didn’t take one single photo, ha!! which only speaks to how much of a good time I had!

There are only a few events left this year before we turn the page, and I’ve got a fun new video to share. Here’s what’s happening!

Sun, Nov 20 – The Nature Of Gratitude @ Tsunami Books – Eugene, OR. 2585 Willamette St. 541-345-8986. Nature-inspired authors Eric Alan and Tom Titus will host the 7th annual “The Nature of Gratitude.” Tom and Eric will offer their annual perspectives on gratitude from their own writings and photography, and will embrace the contributions of poet Jorah LaFleur, writer Melissa Hart, with musical interludes by Halie Loren w/Daniel Gallo and Beth Wood. The awareness cause for this year’s program will be the Center for Community Counseling, a Eugene nonprofit organization dedicated to the critical mission of providing mental health services for those with no other means of support. Donations are encouraged. 3-5 pm.

Sun, Nov 20 – Co-bill will Halie Loren @Tsunami Books – Eugene, OR. 2585 Willamette St. 541-345-8986. Eugene favorite Halie Loren is an international, award-winning jazz singer/songwriter whose artistry is versatile, original, and luminous. I’m so stoked to share the stage with Halie again! Tickets $20; drop by the store or call 541-345-8986 to reserve. 7:30 pm.

Sun, Dec 4 – The Glory of Christmas – Oregon Repertory Singers (Special guest soloist) – Portland, OR. First United Methodist Church
1838 SW Jefferson St. What a thrill! I will be performing my holiday song LOVE IS LOVE (THE CHRISTMAS EVE SONG) with the Oregon Repertory Singers as part of their Glory Of Christmas concert! Dec 4 only. Special thanks to Naomi LaViolette for arranging this song for choir (remember our duet version we released last year??)! Oregon Repertory Singers is a premier choral arts non-profit organization that performs music both rare and recognizable, encompassing a multitude of eras, languages, and musical styles. Tickets starting at $25 available here. 4 pm.

Wed, Dec 7 – Virtual Song Circle – The Interwebs. Hey friends, let’s gather around for a virtual song circle! I’ve missed trading songs with you, and what better time than these long, dark evenings to gather and share!? Songs need to be heard, and songwriters need community! Let’s meet on Zoom to gather by the virtual campfire and share some songs. The purpose of this gathering is simply sharing songs with and listening to each other. Attendance will be capped at 10 people, and the circle will go approximately two hours. Please email me at bethwoodmusic@hotmail.com to reserve your spot, and I will send you the Zoom link. There is no cost to attend! Free-will donations of $5-10 will be joyfully accepted (Venmo: @bethwoodmusic or https://www.paypal.me/bethwoodmusic) 7-9 pm Pacific Time.

I’m so excited to share this video I did in collaboration with The Jeremy Wilson Foundation and photographer Norm Eder for JWF’s “Every Artist Has A Story” video series! It was so much fun to team up with them on this, and it’s such a lovely work of art they made. I’d love to hear what you think!?

Jeremy Wilson Foundation does AMAZING work in Oregon and SW Washington to support musicians and music industry workers during times of medical or health-related crises. We are SO lucky to have this organization helping us through hard times as we know many musicians and music workers live close to the bone. Here’s the JWF website if you’d like to learn more! And you can sign up for their email list here.

Have you checked out my new album yet?? I am still SOOO excited about this one! Click on the album image to take a listen! And you can order a CD directly from me here!

We’re still cookin’ up some fun stuff over at She’s Speaking headquarters! In continuing our tradition of amplifying women’s voices, last month we started highlighting new works from our She’s Speaking artists. Check out our YouTube channel for new songs by Arietta Ward and Jaspar Lepak, with more to come!

And we’re super excited to be performing again as She’s Speaking Live in Portland and Lincoln City in March! Click here to check out our events.

And here’s a little Thanksgiving Day prayer poem for all.

With these cold days and longer nights, I’m looking forward to turning inward and to resting. It has taken me so long to learn how to rest! Is it like that for you?

You may have noticed I am not out and about touring as much, and that is intentional. I have loved exploring what it means to stay in one place and to put roots down. I am no longer interested in chasing after something, but rather in making meaning where I am, deepening connection, and nurturing relationships and community. I’m taking time to make decisions about events rather than trying to fill up my calendar.

I still love music and performing and recording! And I always will. Now I want to do those things in a way that feels healthy, delicious, fun and correct. I’ll continue to keep you posted on happenings as they emerge!

The best way to keep up with what I am creating is on Patreon. Patrons always see and hear stuff I’m working on first, and I send a new song and a new poem each month to patrons before I share it anywhere else. Check it out here!

Wishing you a time of rest and renewal! With heaps of gratitude from your fan,

B

p.s. Hannah says keep it cozy, y’all!
