Greetings, friends and fellow music lovers!
We are scorching up here in the northwest! Good thing I had lots of practice with heat like this growing up in west Texas, where the road tar bubbled up on summer days. May we all get our selves to the closest river or lake or pool of cool water ASAP!
Here’s what’s happening in steamy August…as always I hope you’ll scroll down for gratitude, news, show details, pics, and other musings!

1. GRATITUDE.
Special huge thanks to these wonderful folks for making July so awesome: Karen & James Casto and all at Home By Dark, Jesse & Jess Terry, Chattanooga Market, Route 5 NW Wine Bar, Doug & Trout Lake Festival of the Arts, Moe Dixon, PJ, Tisdel family, Gary & Kathy Lynch and Camarillo Cafe folks, Gary & Terri Trobridge & Living Tradition folks, The Koles, Heidi & Vance & Erin and friends, Jeanette Lundgren, Chico Schwall, Scott & Tsunami Books, the Craven family and all at Rivertunes, and dear friends Misti O-P, Ocea and Mazenko family, Ara Lee, and Gentle Thunder.
2. THE NEWS.
I am fresh off of my first time to RiverTunes music camp, a four-day long musical community romp led by the incomparable, inexhaustable Joe Craven. What a BLAST we had there by the American River soaking up the creativity and the musical magic of our brothers and sisters! Big thank you’s to Joe & Pamela & Hattie Craven, and to all of the wonderful Rivertuners who made me feel so welcome and loved! My songwriting class adventurers made me so proud…I get a little teary-eyed just thinking about it!
On that note I am thrilled to be co-leading a day-long songwriting workshop in Portland with the wonderful Matt Meighan in December. Stay tuned for details…
At the end of RiverTunes, I got the news that my poetry book is being printed while we speak! Some people dream of fame and fortune and owning their own jet…I dream of having my very own book of poetry! We are only doing a very short run at first so that we may hold it in our hands and scour with an eagle eye for typos and mistakes. Once we get that done, it’s off the races! I can’t wait to share this with you. Here’s a sneak peak of the amazing cover by Chris Everett!

August will bring me to the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Song School again, this time as a student. It was my birthday present to myself. I look forward to dipping my toes in the St. Vrain River and soaking up all the creative and musical wonderment that that surrounds that place. I’m thrilled for two very special Colorado concerts in Evergreen and Colorado Springs, and I will be bringing the Magical Fishing Pants of Destiny because I hope to sneak in some good fly-fishing time while I’m there.
Then I get to launch off to MN and WI for another whirlwind tour with my buddy Dave Stoddard! Dave is one of my favorite writers, musicians and humans. We laugh so much sometimes it’s unprofessional. 🙂 Our tour is anchored by the wonderful Great River Folk Festival in La Crosse, WI, which I have been hearing about for years. I’m thrilled to be able to experience it! If you’re anywhere near, here’s what to expect:

In other news, Tyler Fortier and I are making another CD together! This time it will be a stripped-down, all-acoustic, just-me-and-my-guitar-and-voice kind of thing. We will record over the course of a weekend on the Oregon coast in October. There is no one else I would trust to produce this project and I’m excited to get the new songs down! I will share more details as they develop.

So true…

Check out this motley crew! Home By Dark at Chukkar Farm was once again magical, insancely fun, truly heart-warming with many moments of musical transcendence. Love these guys, my musical brothers.

The Home By Dark stage…look how tiny we are! I guess technically we were not home by dark but who’s counting. This was the view from the stage at the beautiful Trout Lake Festival of the Arts! Took my breath away and then Moe Dixon’s music took us all on a joyful ride until the sun came out!

Check out this ad I saw in my Food Network Magazine! Anyone know someone important at Hilton?? I think they need a theme song. 🙂

Had so much fun in southern California, where it rained like crazy and everyone thanked me for bringing it with me from Oregon.

I love the stage at Tsunami Books! So much poetry to lose myself in before and after the show…

but this has got to be my favorite section of all!

Ahhh, the fun we had at Rivertunes!! My fellow songwriting adventurers were so wonderful…I loved sharing that time geeking out about how much we love songs!

ahhhh, the American River. Such a cool relief on those 100 degree days. I jumped in many times and secretly wished I could fish here. 🙂

Spent a day by the Fall River up near Bend, OR. Despite wearing the Magical Fishing Pants of Destiny, I did not catch fish. But I did spend a day by the river. Score one for the win column.
