April’s Newsy Newsletter!

thank you, Elizabeth Campbell for this cool photo!

Good morning, friends from a beautiful, crisp spring morning in Sisters! These longer days are welcome and the tiny little flowers are lifting my spirits. And the little singing frogs are waking up and serenading us at night! I am reminded that it is a world of wonder, and it is a welcome reminder.

I want to share a wonderful event coming up, and everyone can take part, no matter where you are!

I am SO excited for our She’s Speaking Live benefit concert to raise money for humanitarian aid in Ukraine, and I hope you’ll join us! We will be putting on an in-person concert on Sunday, April 10 to benefit Mercy Corp, a Portland-based non-profit supporting humanitarian efforts in Ukraine, Poland, and Romania and beyond. The wonderful folks at Artichoke Music in Portland (2007 SE Powell Blvd, 503-232-8845) are donating space and hosting our in-person concert as well helping us to livestream the concert to the whole wide internet world! Performers include my fellow co-founders Bre Gregg and Kristen Grainger, Portland singer-songwriter and fiddler Kathryn Claire, Ukranian singer-songwriter Darka Dusty, and lil ol me. All the performers are donating their time, and Artichoke is generously donating space and staff hours and hosting and helping us with a raffle with many unbelievably good goodies! Hammer & Stitch Brewing in Portland is donating beer, yum! SO…

If you are in Portland and would like to attend the live show, tickets are available here.

If you’d like to watch the livestream, you can donate and watch here.

If you’d like to buy raffle tickets, you can do that here. (You do not need to be present to win!)

Check out the amazing raffle prizes here, including a custom-built uke from Luthier Dan Wetzel with the She’s Speaking logo on the headstock, OMG!!!

And here’s what else is cooking in the month of April…

I am so honored to be a part of a celebration of life for my friend Jimmy Landry. On Saturday evening, April 2 at the White Horse in Black Mountain, NC, we’ll gather to sing and remember and celebrate the life of our dear friend. Jimmy was a shining light and a positive force, a friend to all he met, a talented and generous singer-songwriter who impacted my life and the lives of many others. All donations will go to Bounty and Soul, an organization Jimmy loved and supported wholeheartedly. You can watch a livestream of the tribute to Jimmy Landry here!

I’ve got a few spots left for my virtual song circle on April 13 . Song circles are a wonderful opportunity to share your songs in a supportive environment. Holler at me at bethwoodmusic@hotamil.com if you’d like to join us! And did you know… you can come and just listen if you’d like?

And I also have a couple spots left for my Virtual Feedback Song Salon on Apri 25. Feedback Song Salons are small virtual gatherings where songwriters can share new work and receive thoughtful feedback from fellow songwriters and from me. We will cap the number at 6 so that each songwriter will have ample time to play and receive feedback. Cost is sliding scale of $10-$25…pay what you can – no judgment! Please email me at bethwoodmusic@hotmail.com to reserve your spot.

And y’all, April is poetry month! I’m excited work with kids in the schools here again to delve into poetry. And I was honored recently to be invited by the Oregon Poetry Association to be a judge in their poetry contest. It was a difficult task but an extremely rewarding one, and it gave me hope that poetry is alive and thriving here in Oregon! So in honor of poetry month, here’s a little poem about the singing frogs, soon to appear in the upcoming Central Oregon Book Project!

Oh what fun we had at The Belfry here in Sisters!! Big love and gratitude to Jenner Fox and his band, to Angeline and all of The Belfry staff, to my sweetie Dennis McGregor for sitting in with me on harmonica! and to all of the folks who came out to celebrate live music in person with us!! It was a magical evening that lifted my spirits to the moon!

There are some exciting things on the horizon, including a barn concert/benefit for Ukraine right here in Sisters on May 21! Dennis and I will be playing and we are so excited for this collaboration with new friends so save the date and stay tuned for more details!

And in Hannah news, she is still and fierce and impossibly cute! After getting to know her sweet, spunky spirit for the last six months, we’ve decided that her middle name is Larue. It rhymes with the “wooooo” she gives out when she’s excited to see someone. 🙂 So her full name is offically Hannah Larue “Pumpkin” Wood, and I couldn’t love her more! Hannah and I are starting our Basic Companionship class in April! Although I think we’re rocking the basic companionship already, I’m excited to learn and to give her new and exciting challenges. Here we are walking along the Metolius river, a magical spot here just outside of Sisters!

Thank you for reading and listening and encouraging and supporting me on my creative path. It has taken twists and turns I never could have imagined, and I am so grateful that you are still with me, so grateful to be making music and poetry and silly little frog poetry videos. If you’d like to hear all of my new work, I hope you’ll consider joining me on Patreon!

Hope to see you in person or out there on the interwebs soon! 🙂

Yours in gratitude and in song,

Beth Wood
