April newsy news!

Thank you, Cassy Berry for this lovely photo.

Hello, friends and fellow music lovers —

I hope the sun is shining where you are! I am grateful for these longer days and for the tiny flowers beginning to show their faces.

I’ve got some fun things to share this month! I’m continuing to teach my songwring classes online and really enjoying that. I hope to offer more in the coming months…perhaps some still online, some locally outside, socially distanced?

April is poetry month and to that I say…isn’t every month poetry month?! 🙂 I am sooo excited to be doing an artist residency in the schools here in Sisters in celebration poetry month! I’ll be working with 5th graders to explore and create poetry, and I can’t wait to see what their curious minds come up with.

I’m also working with my friends Bre Gregg and Kristen Grainger to build upon the momentum that started with our launch of the She’s Speaking project! If you haven’t done so yet, check out our YouTube channel here! We’ve created a home for songs about women, by women, for everyone, and so far we have over over 50 amazing artists! If you’d like to learn more, here’s a lovely article from the Bend Bulletin, and here’s a fun interview we did with KMUZ radio’s Melanie Zermer! Stay tuned for more fun stuff!

And I am  SO excited to be celebrating one year with my Patreon community! I can’t believe it’s been a year and I can’t believe what we have built. If you’re new to this idea, Patreon is a membership platform that allows you to support my music and poery directly and have exclusive access to my new work, works in progress, and online patron-only gatherings. It’s like backstage pass to what I am creating, and a community all rolled up into one. I release one song and one poem each month to my Patreon peeps, rain or shine! You can become a member for as little as $1 a month..whaaaat!? As a gift to my patrons, I’m making an ablum of all the songs I have shared with them over the past year. And I am offering to share that album as my gift to anyone who signs up for Patreon this month! I know, I know, you’re thinking it’s one more password you have to remember, one more thing you gotta sign up for…but it truly is a rewarding way to share new work and it has made my life in music more sustainable. I hope you’ll come join us!

Also, I’ve got these events coming up…

Mon, April 12 – Livestream Reading with Kim Stafford hosted by Annie Bloom’s Books! Annie Bloom’s is a beloved independent book store in Portland’s Multnomah Village, and I’ve spent many an hour browsing the shelves and attending events there. This event is a celebration of Oregon poet Kim Stafford‘s new book, Singer, Come From Afar, and I am delighted ot be his special guest. The event is free and open to all and you can register here! 7 pm.

Wed, April 14 – Monthly Virtual Song Circle. Songs need to be heard, and songwriters need community! We can’t meet in person, so let’s meet on Zoom to gather by the virtual campfire and share some songs! Attendance will be capped at 12 people, and the circle will go for two hours maximum. There are a few spots left for this month’s circle – please email me at bethwoodmusic@hotmail.com to reserve your spot. There is no cost to attend. Free-will donations of $5-10 will be joyfully accepted (Venmo: @bethwoodmusic or Paypal). 7-9 pm.

In case you missed it, here’s a really fun livestream concert I did last month with my good friend David Lamotte. Hope you enjoy!
