Sisters Songworks is an intimate and intensive weekend writing retreat in beautiful Sisters, Oregon celebrating and exploring the art of songwriting in community. The inaugural event will bring in noted songwriters and poets Beth Wood, Anna Tivel and Tom Kimmel to lead the workshop sessions and mentor participants.

Sisters Songworks is an opportunity to learn from professional singer-songwriters, connect with others who share a love of songwriting and poetry, share your work in a non-performance focused setting, and engage in creativity in a supportive environment.

Maximum of 24 participants, divided into smaller groups for workshop sessions.

All instructors are poets as well as songwriters. The focus will be on the craft of songwriting with an emphasis on lyrics.

The weekend retreat will include small group workshops, song circles, a community dinner, opportunities for collaboration, and an instructor concert at Sisters’ beautiful listening room The Belfry on Sunday night.

COST: $375 per person; limited to 25 participants. Lodging is not included in the tuition.

Portland Folk Music Society hosts A Performance Workshop: The Power of Dynamics/Song-Mapping. Have you ever stood back and thought of a song as a whole? Where are the high points and low points? Which moments contain the most potential for expressing emotion? We will look at songs to see how to use dynamics - where to get loud, where to get soft, where to pause, where to breathe -- to engage listeners and tell a compelling story. Open to all but space is limited. 4 pm Pacific time. The cost for this 90-ish minute workshop is a suggested donation of $15 (but pay what you can, no judgment!) There is magic when women come together. We women need to stay connected in our Creativity and Wisdom.

Beth will be leading us in a myriad of songwriting exercises in a workshop retreat via ZOOM! We will observe, listen, write, share, and learn from each other, while being inspired by nature, music, and community. All levels of songwriting experience welcome!

We will have a Song Circle in the evening of Saturday June 20th and a special Sunday Morning Offering led by Beth.
