Hey there, I can’t believe November is here already.  Here’s the latest news and musings!

    Monday Nov 5, 2012
icon I just want to sing to you.  Yes, you.
Greetings friends and fellow music lovers!

What a beautiful autumn we are having in Eugene…reds and yellows and oranges everywhere and even with some sunshine!  I am feeling very blessed and grateful these days as we keep our friends in NY and NJ in our thoughts and prayers.  I’m looking forward to giving the whole region a big musical bear hug when I head that way next week!  Here’s what’s happening in my November newsletter…

    1.  Call To Action

    2.  Gratitude and The News

    3.  November Shows

    4. The Future

    1. CALL TO ACTION. Yes, that’s your phone ringing. It’s Action calling.

Firstly, will you spread the word about shows to your friends & family?  It would be awesome and I would be so grateful!  Word of mouth is our most powerful tool!

Secondly, hey y’all, let’s support the arts.  I want to tell you about a couple of my friends who are launching dream projects.  Both are using the crowd-funding method, a recent development that has been very helpful to independent artists and small businesses.  The premise is that if lots of folks give a little bit of money in support of something, it adds up to a lot.  My friend, the amazingly talented, gutsy and hilarious Megan Burtt, is launching a Pledgemusic campaign to fund her second album.  You can read about it and watch a cool video here!  My friend and fellow Texan Cary Cooper, courageous woman and honest, hardworking singer-songwriter, is launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund her new album called “Zuzu’s Petals”.  Wouldn’t it be cool to make a difference in these artists’ lives?  I’m just sayin.  :)

And finally, I know you’re tired of hearing it, but tomorrow is VOTING day, YAY!  One of my friends and personal heros David Lamotte has some cool things to say about the power of a vote.  Check it out here.

    2.  GRATITUDE AND THE NEWS. I’m grateful.  And I have news.

MUCH gratitude to all the fine folks who helped to make October an epic journey.  To the following venue folks, artists, friends, music-lovers, I thank you…At Secret Society Ballroom, we had an awesome song swap with Mare Wakefield & Nomad, Anne Weiss & Laura Kemp. Then at Cozmic, Peter Perdichizzi joined me as we shared an evening with Mare & Nomad. The City of Smyrna hosted, James Casto & Pat Terry & me at the beautiful Tayler-Brawner park, The Casbah, Eddie’s Attic and The Crimson Moon hosted awesome shows with Chris Rosser, David Lamotte & me.  The great Janet K & Rooster’s wife hosted me & Adam Ezra band, and Ray and the European Street Cafe in Jacksonville made me feel welcome as always. Mike & UU Church Coffeehouse in Columbia hosted me and Natty Boh, and Bob & White Horse Black Mountain hosted a wonderful evening with me & Jimmy Landry and Chris Rosser, woohoo!  And special thanks to all these fine folks for hosting a traveling gypsy in their homes…James & Karen, David & Deanna, Ma & Pa Rosser, Janet &Jake, Misti & Chuck, Ken & CC, Cat, and the Felty family.

I just got done recording my new song “Whiskey” with Eugene’s own Tyler Fortierproducing and the great Peter Perdichizzi adding guitar tracks. Seriously. These guys rock.  I can’t WAIT to hear what Tyler comes up with. Not only is he a great artist, but he’s starting to produce other artists’ work as well.  Check him out here.  I’ll share the song with y’all when it’s done!

I had a wonderful, whirlwind trip to Nashville last month, where I got to write songs with Phil Madeira and Stephen Mougin.  These guys are so talented and generous and I learn something every time.  We wrote two great songs!  I was thrilled to learn that Phil is so excited about our song “Let Me Down” that he is recording it for his next solo album. DANG!!  Phil’s got a great blog – you can read it here.

As I continue to re-groove my dream year by year, I am considering teaching some private voice, guitar, and songwriting lessons.  I am at that curious, gathering-information stage.  I would love to hear your feedback about favorite experiences you had taking music lessons.  What do you think is a reasonable rate?  My goal is to foster a love of learning about music and to help kids of all ages remember that music is FUN.  Lemme hear your thoughts at bethwoodmusic [AT] hotmail.com?

I am super psyched for shows coming up in CO, NY, NJ, PA, MA and TX and a special songwriting retreat with my fabulous friends RJ Cowdery, Kim Richardson and Louise Mosrie!!  Tour dates and details are below…

One more thing:  I am gathering a list of songs about birds.  I have an idea.  I think you might be able to guess what it is.  :)  What are your favorites?  Holla (or chirp) at me at bethwoodmusic [AT] hotmail.com.

Here’s a great pic of me and Chris Rosser & David Lamotte at Eddie’s Attic.  You can tell we weren’t having any fun at all!  Thanks David Miller for the photos…I decided that Chris is my Obi wan Kenobe and David is my Luke Skywalker.

It looks like DL just said something really profound. He does that a lot!

this was such a fun night with James Casto & Pat Terry!

yes, even Pat Terry gets silly at sound check!

much silliness with Janet & the Adam Ezra Group after Rooster’s Wife show…

me & Peter P at Cozmic.  Have i mentioned that he rocks?

    4. THE FUTURE. Coming soon to a town near you.

Staring at the end of this calendar year, I can’t believe how fast it has gone by!  As always in December, I look forward to some time at home to rest, renew and reflect.  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday…I look forward to cooking up a storm and sharing time with loved ones, especially Marty and Marble.  :)

Dear readers, it is my wish to be honest with you, so I must admit that I am a bit road-weary these days and looking to find a way to continue my musical journey without wearing myself out so much.  I will keep you posted on those thoughts and plans as they come.  I will be playing select dates in the beginning of 2013, but my intent is to be at home more and craft my schedule carefully with my health and spirit in mind.  Music is my calling, but I am also being called to be healthy and whole.  Know what I mean?

I am so grateful to you for supporting me and cheering me on!!  Hope to see you out there soon…  Your fan,
