CD Review: Marigolds

Beth Wood from Lubbock, TX has just released her sixth album, Marigolds and has been hitting the roads playing everywhere from Florida to Tennessee to right here in Texas.   Her third album Late Night Radio was produced by Don McCollister who also produced for Indigo Girls and Sister Hazel.   Even though he did not work on this project I hear some of that same pop folk sound on this acoustic album.

Although she was classically trained in piano, violin, harp, and voice, Beth did not pick up a guitar until college at the University of Texas were she taught herself to play and soon became part of the Austin music scene.  Beth also has quite a way with words.  Her lyrics are as well written as they are well sung.  Although every song is good, my favorite was "Someday Somebody Will" which tells a story of a man through three generations; as a son, as a husband, and as a father.  It's a great song.

Beth will be in Fort Worth on May 6th at McHenry's where I'm sure she will have plenty of copies of Marigolds for sale.  To find out more, check out her web site at  www.bethwoodmusic.com.
