Hello there friends-- Greetings, friends and fellow music lovers --
I hope this finds you well and happy! Things are going great here at BW World Headquarters…I just got back from a fabulous 3000 mile trip to the southeast, and it seems that summer snuck up on me while I was gone…it’s already HOT!! Here’s what’s going on these days…
Beachcomber's Daughter is now available for purchase and download at www.cdbaby.com or on ITunes!
Check out this cool review of "Beachcomber's Daughter" from the Dallas Morning News..."Beth Wood is a folk singer with a dauntless voice who thrives on stretching boundaries. On her seventh and latest CD, Beachcomber's Daughter, she uses folk as a springboard into soul, blues and whatever else strikes her fancy. The wittiest track is "Clean Up (Before I Change My Mind)," a hard-core honky-tonk about a messy beau who's messing with her brain. But as funny as the Arlington-based singer can be, she's also a serious songwriter with an agile touch: In "Our New Century," she takes an unflinching look at the "broken-record symphony" of current events, while "Funeral Day" is about finding joy in bleak circumstances."

2. Gratitude and The News…I’ve got so much gratitude today for the many people have helped me on my journey recently. Special thanks to Sharman and friends, Suzanna Choffel, and Mojo Risin’ in Houston; to the Howes and David Lamotte for a magical evening; to Al Johnson et al at the Wildflower festival; to Greg, Nate, Paige and all at the Acoustic Coffeehouse in Johnson City; to James Casto, Carole Ford, Sam Skelton, and Scottsdale Farms; to the Felty family, Chris Rosser, Eliot Wadopian, Heart of Brevard, and all who made the White Squirrel Festival so much fun; to Chuck Carrier, Eddie, Shalom and all at Eddies Attic; to Karen, Dave & friends in Fletcher! I also owe a huge debt of gratitude to friends whose hospitality and kindness softened the hard edges of the road. Thank you Tamara, Chris, Gia, Misti, Kristie, James, Chris, Lynn, John, Cheri, Loie, Nora, and finally Heather, whose thoughtfulness made me feel so special on my birthday.
Well, I’ve got some big news…Marty, Marble and I are moving to Colorado!! We are so excited we can barely sit still. It will be bittersweet leaving behind so many dear friends in Texas, but we have both felt pulled westward for quite some time. Marty will be working with Oskar Blues Brewery out of Lyons (near Boulder) to build their national marketing and distribution programs. Not only do the folks at Oskar Blues make REALLY GOOD beer, but they are also good quality people who are on a mission to spread the joy through beer and music. It feels like a perfect fit for us. We are both looking forward to this new adventure! I will continue making and playing music, just with a different home base. Guess I’ll have to learn how to drive in snow…eeeek!
More big news…I have been invited to perform on Cayamo 2009, the songwriters cruise…woohoooo!!! Other confirmed artists for next year include Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, John Hiatt, Buddy Miller, Marc Broussard, Joe Ely, Emerson Hart, Tift Merritt, Shawn Mullins, Glen Phillips, Darrell Scott, Mindy Smith & Vienna Teng!! Last year’s cruise was SOOO fun and inspiring, and I’m delighted and honored to be included again this year. We will set sail from Miami and venture to St. Thomas, Tortola, and Great Stirrup Cay. Please see www.cayamo.com for info!
In other news…I just uploaded a new song to my myspace page (www.myspace.com/bethwoodmusiccom). Admittedly I have not been good about updating myspace, but I’m working on it! The new song I put up was conceptualized and made possible by Marty. He’s a dreamer who makes things happen, a rare combination indeed…it’s just one of the things I love about him. During the making of “Beachcomber’s Daughter,” Marty came up with the idea of having one of our favorite artists, Matthew Ryan, do a remix of “Our New Century.” Matthew’s work is dark, layered, cinematic, lush, and sparse all at the same time, and it blows my mind. His remix of the song is very different than the original, and it captures something else altogether. I’m very grateful to Matthew for his work and his patience, and to Marty for thinking outside the boundaries. Also, Matthew has a fantastic new album and is on tour…check him out at www.matthewryanonline.com.
And finally, I’m a published author! Last year my friend Billy Crockett asked me to contribute an essay to the Blue Rock Review, a

Recently, I was really touched reading a blog by fellow artist Matthew Ryan (mentioned above). His topic was “giving up on giving up,” and he described his recent optimism in the wake of a new project and tour. I must admit that I often feel that I am on the very edge of giving up, never quite ready to let go but looking longingly in the distance at a more comfy and secure existence. The business side of music leaves me exhausted sometimes, and emotionally spent. But Matthew’s words inspired me and made me realize that if I assume the posture of someone almost ready to give up, I am not fully giving my attention to the direction I AM going in. If I keep looking to what I don’t have, I am missing what I do have. How can I do justice to this artist’s life unless I commit to it fully and, to quote Henry David Thoreau, "go confidently in the direction of my dreams?” Here’s to nurturing my unbridled optimism in the face of narrow odds!
Thanks to all of you who cheer me on and support me on my journey! As always, I welcome your feedback. Your fan,
Beth Wood
