Greetings, friends and fellow music lovers -- Happy 2009! How exciting to have a whole new year, a clean slate, a fresh start. I love that the flip of a page on the calendar can mean so much. I’m not feeling the resolution thing this year, but as always there are many things I would like to do better…writing, discipline regarding writing and playing, taking better care of myself and my time, listening to my inner voice (which often whispers), expressing my gratitude. To all of you who came to a show, listened to a CD, or shot me an email, thanks for sharing a bit of your 2008 with me.
Beachcomber's Daughter is now available for purchase and download at www.cdbaby.com or on ITunes!
Check out a cool review of "Beachcomber's Daughter" on Folk Alley! Go to www.folkalley.com and scroll down to the blog section...
Also from the Dallas Morning News..."Beth Wood is a folk singer with a dauntless voice who thrives on stretching boundaries. On her seventh and latest CD, Beachcomber's Daughter, she uses folk as a springboard into soul, blues and whatever else strikes her fancy. The wittiest track is "Clean Up (Before I Change My Mind)," a hard-core honky-tonk about a messy beau who's messing with her brain. But as funny as the Arlington-based singer can be, she's also a serious songwriter with an agile touch: In "Our New Century," she takes an unflinching look at the "broken-record symphony" of current events, while "Funeral Day" is about finding joy in bleak circumstances." Gratitude, The News, Call To Action 1. Gratitude...
Much gratitude to the following for making December successful...The Issitt family for fabulous hospitality and friendship, the Arkansas Sustainability Network and the Downtown Divas, all the folks at Channel 7 “Good Morning Arkansas” for being so nice in the morning (that’s hard to do, believe me, I know!), the good folks of Studio Joe Coffeehouse and friends from Acoustic Sounds Coffeehouse, Billy & Dodee Crockett, David Wilcox, Keith, and all who make Blue Rock such a magical place, and Judi and the fine peeps of Journey, who make me feel at home in a warehouse on the north side of town.
2. News...
Personal highlights from December...
Singing "At Last" with Roland Elbert accompanying on piano...I closed my eyes and I thought we were in a smokey jazz club, momentarily fulfilling my lounge-singer dreams. Tasting Monica's homemade bread. Eating my mother's cooking, being silly with Dad (I made him watch "Top Chef", y'all!). Jogging with David Wilcox and sharing conversation about life and music while avoiding cow patties on the back country roads. Blue Rock magic & harmonies. Singing with Abi Tapia and watching in wonder as she knitted backstage. Watching my car's outdoor themometer dip to -10 while driving home and living to tell the tale. Watching the sun set with my sweetie on Christmas.
There was a time when I thought of taking January off from playing shows, but that always sounds easier than it is. After a very eventful year, I was planning on some down-time away from the road. As it turns out, I get to play a few REALLY fabulous shows this month, AND have some down-time at home… it is really the best of both worlds!! I’ve got a poetry and music night in Tulsa with my good friends Jim Chastain and Nathan Brown, a band show at my favorite hometown bar, a new Colorado venue (to me) with a new friend Lindsay Weidmann, and a house concert with some fabulous folks who just happen to be talented musicians, too. Also, Wed. Jan 21 is a Beatles tribute night at Oskar Blues hosted by Jami Lunde and I'll be playing some tunes. Wish I had those Fabtones with me now! Can I get a WOOHOO??

What's next? February is going to be jam-packed with greatness!! I’ve got a fabulous trip to the Northwest planned…I know, it has been WAY too long! I’m a little excited, can you tell?
Seriously I'm gonna have to up the mileage on the treadmill cause I'm not ready to give up the beer and chocolate. And that's the closest to a new year's resolution as I'm gonna get.
I look forward to seeing you down the road. As always, I welcome and appreciate your feedback! All the best to you in 2009...your fan,
Beth Wood
