Friday, May 4, 2012 - Ritual Cafe – Des Moines, IA1301 Locust St. Suite D.  515-288-4872.  Nestled in the heart of downtown’s Gateway Park, Ritual Cafe is a cultural hub for the City of Des Moines attracting artists of all walks. While one wall is anchored with a permanent display of a local artist, other local artists rotate monthly on the walls surrounding the live performance area.  Although Ritual Cafe is identified first and foremost as a coffee house, we do offer delicious vegetarian food.  $10. Hey, it's the Lone Star State's Flag!

The best part about the Cayamo cruise is making new friends. We had a chance to hang out with many inspiring artists and fans, and it’s a feeling I’ll never forget. Some highlights…

–Getting to be the first artist to play on the ship was a thrill! Since I played a set while everyone boarded, I thought folks were just going to walk by, but the room was PACKED with awesome music lovers who stayed for my whole 90 minute set!!

–Lyle walking through the room and smiling at me when I played my opening day set

–Getting a sun tan (sorry Oregonians)!

–Riding around on a scooter with Marty in St. Barth’s and then having a cappuccino and nutella/banana panini sandwich in a cafe there.

–Going on a sailing trip with Richard Thompson and his wife and crew. Getting to know them a bit was a BLAST!! My favorite show of the whole week was the Richard Thompson Trio…they blew the roof off the place and he never broke a sweat!

–I got to play with some AMAZING musicians!!! Natalia Zukerman sat in with me on lap steel, Levi Lowrey sat in on fiddle, Scott N on cajon, the great Michael Jerome on drums, and Sarah Buxton sang with me. And it was a thrill playing our Cayamo Sessions set with Shannon McNally, Anne Heaton, Natalia Z on bass, and Wallace Lester on drums. WOOHOO!

Ok, I’m back.  :)  This year’s Cayamo is has a MONSTER line-up and I am thrilled and honored to be a part of it!!  This will be my third Cayamo, and it just keeps getting better.  Did you know that Marty asked me to marry him on our first Cayamo?  :)  Good stuff.

So I got my schedule for the boat and it is AWESOME.  I am hoping for some surprise guests to sit in with me, fingers crossed… Here goes:

Sun, Feb 5 — Atrium Bar — 12:30-2 pm.  I am so excited to serenade everyone as they board the ship!!  I am the first music on the boat and SO happy to kick things off.  Also glad this is before the superbowl and the life boat drills.  :)

Tue, Feb 7 – 11pm-midnight – Bar City

Fri, Feb 10 – 7:30-8:30 pm — Spinnaker Lounge — Cayamo Sessions at Sea!!  This will be me, Shannon McNally and Anne Heaton playing the songs we wrote together along with some other faves.  Kick-ass women!

Sat, Feb 11 – 9:30-10:30 pm – Spinnaker Lounge — my buddy John Felty from Jupiter Coyote will sit in for some of this one!
