Greetings friends and fellow music lovers, and happy June!

Marty, Marble and I had a fabulous birthday month, and quite frankly we can’t believe it’s over already.

June means long days here in Eugene starting at 5:30 and ending around 9…the sun has been out and it has been gorgeous – just the kind of magical weather that makes all the rainy days worth it. I just planted my veggies, so I hope they will survive my beginner’s-mind approach to gardening.

Well, I have been recording a ton in the studio with Tyler Fortier and I’m thrilled at the work we are doing. We’ve got five songs finished and two more cooking. I am not playing shows this month, so I’ll keep this short.

1. Gratitude & The News

Special thanks to these folks for making May so fabulous…Mark & Jeanne and all at Olympia Acoustic Concerts, John & Marlene and their wonderful community of friends at Concerts on the Lake, Candace & Grace Kathol and the crew at Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts in Port Angeles.

And special thanks to all of you who signed up for my Song of the Month Club, which I just launched in May!! I’m so excited to have you on board and I hope we can grow this little community! I appreciate all of your feedback and kind words about the project! I’m very fortunate to have a fabulous group of Song Sponsors: Lee Stivers, Dave & Erica Holiday, Margaret & Terry Zimmerman, Damon & JaNaye Bryson, Maggie Stivers, Anne & Dave Husted, Laura Howe, Mel Stark, Danny Allen & Dave Lein, Mark Kaufman, Ann& Bob Wood, Cathy & Rick Nathan!

Special thanks to Della Perry (www.ramblebramble.com) for the cute bird logo!

In case you missed it, here’s the scoop on my Song of the Month Club. I am releasing a new album one song at a time. It’s called the Song of the Month Club and goes like this. I have been reimagining how I can deliver my new music to the world, and my Song of the Month Club is the result of that vision. Let’s become pioneers in the music business as we blaze new trails together!

I was inspired by the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) concept where you pay a certain amount to a small farm, and they deliver a box of their freshest produce every month. This of this as Community Supported Music. :)

Here’s the basics:

You make a one-time payment on my website, by check, or in person. I suggest a minimum of $10 but the sky’s the limit. I send you a fresh song along with liner notes and lyrics every month for 10 months. At the end of that time, we’ll have a new CD! Club members can purchase physical copies for $5.

If you’d like to do more, please consider becoming a Song Sponsor! Song Sponsors are a very special group of folks who give $100 or more. This support will go directly to studio production costs and paying musicians for their brilliant playing. Song sponsors get special recognition in my liner notes!

Click HERE to learn more and become a member!

I had a really fun photo session with Cassy Berry, a wonderful, hilarious, talented young photographer who grew up in Eugene and is now living in Portland. It has been a few years since I had photos taken, and I’ll need some images for this new project. I fell in love with Cassy’s work and I’m so glad she was available and willing to work with me in Eugene! Special thanks to my girls Ocea, Caitlin and Jessica for the clothes and hair & make up help! p.s. Cassy took that fabulous photo at the top with the yellow flowers. I got poison oak from standing there, it was totally worth it.

I don’t have any shows this month, but I am excited be singing our National Anthem at the Eugene Emeralds game on June 26! They have an awesome new logo, he’s so scary!

Thanks to Eugene Magazine for the nice write-up and review of “The Weather Inside” in their summer issue! It’s not available online, so I’ll share my favorite part… “A collection of well-crafted, Lyle Lovett-esque tunes, the record is set on dirt roads and in small towns, delving into archetypal American images of life on the road, exploring the conflicts, tensions, and the push/pull nature of being an artist-subjects that are close to Wood’s heart.” SWEET!! Should I send a CD to Lyle? :)

And finally, this coming Monday is my audition for “The Voice”. Thanks so much for all of your encouragement! I’m going to give it my best shot and we’ll see what happens. I’ve got nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain by putting it out there! Hopefully they’ll let me sing some of my own songs, we’ll see! Right now I’m planning to sing my song “Whiskey”, “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum, “Too Close” by Alex Clare and possibly “Over My Head” by The Fray or maybe something by Amos Lee…love love love him. Already it’s been surreal working on these tunes I love but would otherwise never perform. I’m sure my neighbors are sick of me singing at the top of my lungs with headphones on while walking Marble.

this is how they roll in Olympa…my kind of folks.

my greeting in Allyn, WA at Lakehouse Concerts, so sweet!

i was totally geeking out in Port Angeles, WA but we didn’t see any whales…we’ll just have to go back!

insanely awesome birthday card from Bill & Pat Snow…

this is happening in our yard right NOW! hot damn!

2. The Future…I am feeling so blessed to be supported in my living my dream, to live in a beautiful place where I can connect with the natural world, to be surrounded by loving folks who believe in me. It’s going to be a wonderful summer!! I’ve got fabulous shows coming up in July & Aug (see below). I look forward to building the Song-of-the-Month Club and getting the word out about my new music. THANK YOU for your encouragement and support. I hope to see you out there soon! Your fan,

Greetings, friends and fellow music lovers! This morning I am thinking of all of the abundance all around me…gorgeous flowers in bloom, songs that just keep coming, wonderful folks who support my music, and I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. Welcome to May!

May is a special month around here. Marty and I share the same birthday on the 22nd (woohoo!), and our sweet Marble turns 14 on May 21, so there is lots to celebrate! Speaking of celebrating, I am so blown away by the initial support y’all have shown for my Song-of-the-Month Club!! We just launched and already we have over 30 members and many song sponsors! Thank you SO much to you brave pioneers who are willing to take this leap with me…more about this below. Here’s what’s happening in May:

1. Call to Action

2. Gratitude and The News

3. May Shows

4. The Future

1. Call to Action…As I mentioned above, I have just launched my Song-of-the-Month Club, a new way to stay current with my music! It has been three and a half years since my last CD came out. I have songs coming out my ears, so I got to thinking…why wait to produce a new CD? I was inspired by the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) concept where you pay a certain amount to a small farm, and they deliver a box of their freshest produce every month. Think of this as Community Supported Music. :) Tyler Fortier and I have been working in his studio on some new songs and I’m so excited for you to hear them! So that’s how the Song-Of-The-Month Club came about. Here’s how YOU can directly support the creation of my music AND get a new BW song every month:

You make a one-time payment on my website, by check, or in person. I suggest a minimum of $10 but the sky’s the limit. I send you a fresh song along with liner notes and lyrics every month for 10 months. At the end of that time, we’ll have a new CD! Club members can purchase physical copies for $5.

If you’d like to do more, please consider becoming a Song Sponsor! Song Sponsors are a very special group of folks who give $100 or more. This support will go directly to studio production costs and paying musicians for their brilliant playing. Song sponsors get special recognition in my liner notes!

Thanks to Della Perry for the cute bird logo!

Click HERE to learn more and become a member! One last thought…it’s FREE to spread the word, so that’s another a great way to support…tell your friends!

2. Gratitude and The News

Ok, I know I say this every time, but April was a whirlwind! Maybe that’s why my hair is so crazy. I am SO grateful to these folks for making it a blast…Matt Miner, Cal Scott & Richard Moore, Lee & Cindy H, Jim Clay & The Black Swamp Bistro, John Gorka, Tom & Richelle & The Kent Stage, Mary & Jim B, Cheryl & Scott & Lakehouse Music peeps, Ellis Paul and all at The Ark, The Issitt Family, Tamara G & all the gracious folks at the compound, Bailey & the Potts family & all at Sundilla, Wildman Steve, Ralph & Lisa & all at the Hoedown, Dell & Ferlando G & friends, Paige & Greg & all at Tennessee shines, and Mare & Nomad for a lovely place to stay in Nashville!

The News. Well, June is quiet month on the touring front. I am hoping to catch my breath a little, focus on new music for the Song-of-the-Month Club, and there’s this one other thing. I’ve been invited to audition for “The Voice” and a little voice in my head said, “why the hell not!?!” Some of you may think this seems a bit out of character for me but here’s the deal. I love to sing. It is my greatest passion, it is when I feel the most alive and connected. I love my life as a musician. I want to continue building a career in music, and I am willing to fight for it. I will do whatever I have to do to make it happen as long as I don’t have to sell my soul! So I’ll let you know how it goes. Worst case scenario – I’ll have a fun weekend and an interesting story to tell all my friends. :)

Good news – since I’m around Eugene in June, we could do a house concert if you live in OR or WA. I’m just sayin’. Holler at me: bethwoodmusic [AT] hotmail.com

La-La-La-La…it’s true! My song-of-the-month club is now officially launched! YOU can support my music and get a new song every month! Here’s how it works:

You make a one-time payment to become a Song-of-the-Month Club member. I suggest a minimum amount of $10, but you can write in any amount you’d like to pay. Viola, you are an investor in the arts!

I will send you an MP3 of a fresh BW song on the first of every month for 10 months along with lyrics and liner notes about each song’s creation. At the end of that 10 months, I’ll make a CD. (If you’re already a member of the song-of-the-month club and you’d like a CD at that time, it’s all yours for special club price of $5.) The song may be a freshly hatched acoustic version, or it may be a fully produced song that wunderkind producer Tyler Fortier and I have hashed out in the studio here in Eugene.

If you’d like to do more, please consider becoming a Song Sponsor! Song Sponsors are a very special group of folks who give $100 or more. This support will go directly to studio production costs and paying musicians for their brilliant playing. Song sponsors get special recognition in my liner notes, yay!

If you sign up, I will do my best to email your first song to you within 24 hours…and after that, you’ll receive each month’s song on the 1st of the month.

Ways to pay…

PAYPAL: a fully-secure way to pay by credit card. Suggested minimum of $10. Simply click on the “Buy Now” botton below, write in your amount, then hit “update” and you’re good to go.

SNAIL MAIL: You can send a check to me for $10 or more at PO Box 864, Eugene, OR, 97440.

IN PERSON: Tap me on the shoulder at a show and we’ll talk.

Let’s face it, you rock. YOU, my husband, my family and friends are the reason I am able to live my dream of making music. THANK YOU for your support and for spreading the word! Will you please let me know if you have any questions?? Holler at me at bethwoodmusic@hotmail.com.

Hello friends and fellow music lovers!

I had such a BLAST this past month that it has flown by, and lo and behold things are starting to bloom around here. Love it! There is much to tell you so I’ll get right to it!

1. Gratitude

2. The News

3. Call to Action

4. April Shows in WA, OR, OH, MI, LA, AL, and GA…whew!

5. The Future

1. GRATITUDE. Where do I begin? Thank you to the Dalziel family, the Wolf family, Becky & Tom, Dave and all at Fogartyville, Alice and everyone at ACMA, the Oxford-Pickerals, the Stoddard family and all the good folks of Fergus, The Spot, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, New York Mills Cultural Center, JoDan and Niijii Radio, the Reihle Family, Mark Samuelson, Spider and Studio 222, Evansville Arts Center, Deb & Kit, Sarina O, The Schippers, and Glenn Elvig and Patty. And thank you to Renee Gebhardt for always working with a smile. :) My shows with Dave Stoddard were really special, highly energized and musically triumphant and fun. I loved sharing the stage with Dave and hope we can do more of that in the future! Plus he’s a good snow driver. So special thanks to Dave for your energy in putting together our shows, and for all the laughs and wonderful musical moments. Can’t wait for more!

2. THE NEWS. Well, I’m excited to be continuing my work with Tyler Fortier and Peter Perdichizzi here in Eugene at Tyler’s studio. I am finalizing the plan for lauching my Song-Of-The-Month Club with Jodi Hersh the web/graphic design goddess helping me get it set up on my website. Expect to see a special announcement email soon! I would like to have the first song available in April!

I also want to tell you about an awesome project that I was invited to be a part of. It is called “The Color of Music” – a compilation put together by Eugene Daily News featuring Eugene musicians to benefit Kindtree – Autism Rocks – a local non-profit that specializes in helping children with autism and families with autistic children. This is a fabulous collection of music by fabulous artists!! You can check it outhere…and you can support this wonderful group AND get some cool tunes at the same time. Win!

I am so excited for shows coming up! I’m playing a venue that’s new to me this weekend in Long Beach, WA, just above Astoria. Turns out it’s a dog-friendly place so my side-kick Marble will be joining me! Then on Monday I’m psyched to return to the Songwriters Circle in Portland at O’Connor’s Vault with Cal Scott & Richard Moore. These guys are AMAZING and we had such a blast last time! Then I get to take a little midwest trip and play two new series and two new venues…and warm up for the great John Gorka and Ellis Paul…YAY!! Then it’s a southeast run where springtime will hopefully be in full bloom! I am thrilled thatmy friend Tamera G is willing to host a house concert for me in New Orleans! And I have wanted to play the Sundilla series in AL for a long time. I’m psyched to play a series new to me in Gainesville, GA and a birthday party for my cousin Dell. :) And finally, while I’m in the southeast I’ll make another trip to Nashville. Every time I go, I meet committed writers and business people who are out there making things happen…it’s exciting. I am thrilled to be doing some more co-writing with new folks and hopefully catching up with old friends, too. Show details are below…

3. CALL TO ACTION. Wanna host a house concert? It’s fun, your friends will love it, and my toes will dance. We can even talk about backyard concerts…weather permitting. I’m currently looking for June shows…possibly in OR, WA, CA, ID, UT… basically anywhere I can drive to. I love summertime in the northwest so I’d like to see some of it this year!

Greetings friends and fellow music lovers!!

I hope 2013 is off to a great start for y’all! Things are good here at BW headquarters and it looks like 2013 will be epic. I know the word epic gets overused but I still love it anyway. Saw “The Hobbit”, it was epic.

February is a short month, thus I will keep this short. Scoop:

1. Gratitude

2. The News

3. Couple of shows in Feb

4. The Future

1. Gratitude. Thank you to Ben and everyone at the Brewers Union in Oakridge for an awesome evening! I am so thankful to the fine folks in the DC area who made my recent trip out there so wonderful. Thanks to the Ochs family for taking such good care of me! Thanks to Scott and the Focus Music folks in Rockville, to Bridget and the Arlington Cinema Drafthouse, to Domenic Cicala and the City of Gaithersburg Arts Barn, and to David & Erica and all at the Stone Room! I had a great time hearing music from Lincoln Durham, Allie Farris and Brent Peterson. Thank you to all of you who wrote me with your ideas for that March date in MN…and thanks to my folks for coming to visit us in gray rainy Eugene and helping us with the house. My kitchen has shelf paper now and my dad put a bird feeder outside my office window so i can watch the chickadees, nuthatches, juncos, jays, and a beautiful pair of varied thrushes who have happy hour every day. YAY!

2. The News. Great news…I have been doing more recording here in Eugene with Tyler Fortier producing and the great Peter Perdichizzi on guitar! We are almost done with my song “Broken Elevator Heart” and getting ready to start another. Recording with these guys is so easy and fun and has gotten me truly excited about recording again.

Another exiting thing to think about is how to release my new material. It occurs to me…why make people wait another year for an album when these songs are happening now? So I am working on developing a song subscription program. The basic premise is this:

1. I am the sole owner of my music so I can do whatever the hell I want with it, woohoo!

2. A subscription would cost $10 and folks who sign up would get one song per month for 10 months delivered in MP3 format. This would give us time to work on the songs while getting some of them out there at the same time.

3. If you still like a pysical CD, no worries! For $15, you can belong to the subscription series AND I will send you a CD when it’s done.

4. Another idea…you can sign up for the acoustic version of the songs or the produced version…whatever you like!

5. I’m still working on this idea and hoping to launch with the first song being delivered in April.

6. I’d love to hear your ideas/feedback. Let’s think outside the box y’all! Or better yet, let’s obliterate the box.

I am stoked for a month at home in Feb with a couple of special shows. Feb’s calendar is intentionally light as I take more time to reflect, rest, write, and get my biz in order for the coming year. I am honored to be a part of Winterfolk’s 25th anniversary concert at the Aladdin Theater in Portland on Feb 2. Details are below in the tour section. This wonderful benefit was started by folksinger Tom May and it benefits the organization Sisters of the Road. Headlined by Peter Yarrow! And I’m also thrilled to be invited to perform at a house concert/benefit in Eugene for the Friends of Buford Park and Mt.Pisgah! And on the last day of Feb, I will start my FL mini-tour in St Petersburg, yay!

Finally, the great Dave Stoddard and I are doing an epic tour of MN/WI in March. Some are up on the website but there is more…full details coming soon!

3. Feb Shows

4. The Future. I am getting excited about this new music. Plotting and planning how I can get it out there. I’m having a blast with vocal coaching – if anyone in Eugene, or Oregon for that matter, is interested in vocal coaching, holler at me! I am so grateful to you for caring about me and my music, I feel truly blessed! Your fan,

Greetings, friends and fellow music lovers, happy 2013!

What an exciting time it is…I love the clean slate that comes with a new year, so full of possibility! 2012 was full of highs and lows, and I think many of us were feeling like we could use a do-over. So I’m ready to fully embracing this new beginning! Here’s what’s happening in this month’s newsletter…

1. Call to Action

2. Gratitude and The News

3. Jan shows in Oakridge, OR and the DC area

4. The Future

1. CALL TO ACTION…I’m thrilled that I’ll get to play some shows with the great Dave Stoddard in March in MN & WI. Dave is one of the most musically gifted, funniest humans I have ever met, and we were both Kerrville New Folk winners in the same year. We are looking for a house concert in Duluth, MN or Rochester, MN on on Thurs, March 14, or anywhere within a 3 hour radius. Any adventurous souls out there in the great white north? Also, we have Sun, March 10 & Mon, March 11 open near Fargo, ND. Lemme know if you are interested in hosting! Otherwise we’ll just have to rent “Fargo” and have a Coen Brothers movie marathon.

Secondly, I could use some input y’all. I talked recently with the creative guys from Winogradsky/Sobel, the company that is pitching my songs to TV/Film. They asked me what current TV shows do I think my music would fit on? The problem is that I don’t really watch TV, except for cooking shows (Top Chef, yea!!). Are there any TV shows out right now that YOU think my music would be a good fit for? Help me out, I’m TV ignorant! :) I’d love to hear your thoughts…bethwoodmusic [AT] hotmail.com

2. GRATITUDE AND THE NEWS…I have so much to be grateful for! Thank you to everyone who reads my musings, comes to live shows, shouts “woohoo” and spreads the word to friends. And thanks to the following for a great December…Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse and crew, Brazos Valley House Concert team, the White River Cabin girls, Mountain Home UU, Matt Hiland and crew at Open Ears Concerts, Jenny & Kerry & Maizey, Clint & Alan at Rear Window Listening Room, Dreamdog, Willie M & Michael KD,Tsunami Books, and the Caldera Songwriters Group. Special thanks to these fine musicians who inspired me so much and made it so much fun…Dirje & John Smith, Jenny Reynolds, RJ Cowdery, Kim Richardson, and Louise Mosrie!

A highlight for me in December was the gathering of kindred spirits in a cabin on the White River in Arkansas. Thanks to Kim Richardson and her masterful planning skills, I got to spend three wonderful days with Kim, RJ Cowdery, and Louise Mosrie. There was much cooking and eating, talking and drinking, singing and songwriting, all in a beautiful setting next to a river. We had to look no further than the back yard to be inspired by Bald Eagles, kingfishers, pileated woodpeckers, and old growth trees. Next year I’m bringing my fly rod! The Mountain Home UU Fellowship graciously hosted a concert for us again, and we hope to play and sing more together! There was even talk of recording so we’ll see… I hold these artists in the highest regard and it is so good for my spirit to commune with them. Here’s a video of a song we learned…

Another wonderful moment was the Caldera Songwriters Group concert and fundraiser for the Egan Warming Center here in Eugene! We had standing-room-only at Tsunami Books, stellar performances by 13 talented songwriters, and an extremely appreciative and generous audience! We were thrilled to raise $820 and two car-loads of warm things for the Egan Warming Center, and we’re intending to make this a yearly tradition. WOOHOO indeed!!

The mastering is done on my song “Whiskey”!! I worked on this with local phenom Tyler Fortier producing and local guitar hero Peter Perdichizzi. I’m so excited for you to hear it… I have put it up on my website here so you can take a listen. I’d love to know what you think! It harkens me back to my Atlanta days when I was writing for a band. Fun stuff! Next week,Tyler and Peter and I will begin working on another new song, “Broken Elevator Heart”. Who knows if and how these would all form into an album project, but I am having a great time working with these guys, and it is giving me much good energy.

Other awesome news….FINALLY, in the It’s-About-Time category, I am beginning a radio campaign for “The Weather Inside”! I am thrilled to be working with Hudson Harding Music, a radio promotion company founded by my friend and fellow Kerrville New Folk winner Erik Balkey! Starting at the end of January, Erik will be mailing out 250 CDs to folk and americana radio DJ’s. Erik has great relationships with these folks as he is an artist himself. As soon as I have it, I will make available to you the list of those stations and DJs so we can start calling and requesting my songs! At the end of January, I will also begin mailing out CDs to press for possible reviews. Lemme know if you have any suggestions or connections to magazines, blogs, newspapers that you think would be receptive to my work.

Part of the challenge of 2012 for me was all the waiting. The original plan for “The Weather Inside” didn’t come together, and there was lots of waiting associated with that. But the wait is over, I’m, back in the driver’s seat, and it’s time to give this album the push it deserves! (See below in “The Future” section for more about my New Years Resolution)…

Some fun pics…

Thanks Ira for the great shots of the Uncle Calvin’s show! Loved playing with Dirje and John…

I love this pic of Dirje… pure joy!

I got to sing Willie McEachern’s song “Kickin’ In the Wet Snow” with Dreamdog at the Eugene Saturday Market! A lady on the dance floor got super excited because she thought she saw James Belushi dancing. It wasn’t him, but he gave her an autograph anyway.

This is the boatload of warm things we collected at the Caldera Songwriters Group concert/benefit for the Egan Warming Center!

3. JANUARY SHOWS…Life is so uncertain. Please call ahead.

Sat, Jan 19 - Brewer’s Union Public House – Oakridge, OR. 48329 E. 1st St. The Brewers Union Local 180 is a blend of the best of the British Public House, the American spirit of adventure, and the natural scenic beauty of Oregon’s Cascade Mountains. Situated in the center of Oakridge, which along with it’s neighboring city of Westfir are the only cities in Oregon completely surrounded by National Forest, you will find a throwback to when the community gathered regularly to share news, when beer was brewed in the back of the pub and pulled from the cellar out of a cask, and when the weary traveler found a cozy nook and a good meal. I’m so thrilled to be playing a living room concert in Oakridge’s favorite living room! 7 pm.

Tue, Jan 22 - Focus Concerts – Rockville, MD. 100 Welsh Park Drive, at the UU Congregation of Rockville. 301-275-7459. Tickets $15 in advance (and for members) or $18 at the door. With Jesse Terry! 8 pm.

Sat, Jan 26 - Stone Room Concerts – Falls Church, VA. Stone Room House Concerts support independent, nationally and regionally known musicians and bring their music to our friends and acquaintances in an intimate setting. $20 suggested donation.

4. THE FUTURE…Well, I’ll go ahead and say it. One of my new years resolutions is to be my own hero. I hope to continue learning and growing, and that’s not always fun or easy. I’ve learned in the last year that there is no white horse. You have to be your own hero!! Being in the music business is not only about creativity on the music side, but it’s also about creating opportunities and experienes for yourself. Here’s my little new years poem…

No White Horse

There is, most likely,

no white horse

but on the thimble’s off chance

that there is, he’s

wild as the day he was born,

standing in the distance on top of

the heathered hill, closer

to sky, stamping and snorting

with a crazed look in his eye, just

daring you to not just stand there,

do something.

Thank you for reading and for reamining a vital part of my musical journey. As always, I always love hearing from ya. I’m grateful for you and wishing you a fabulous 2013!! Your fan,
